72 Hours

When did we become married to the idea that "three days and three nights" must be exactly 72 hours? 1 Sam 30:12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. Does anyone suppose this MUST also be exactly 72 hours? Of course not. Jonah 1:17  Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Matt 12:40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. So neither of these must be exactly 72 hours. But it can't be more than 72 hours or a 4th day enters the picture, and that does violate scripture. If I say, "See you in three days!" we don't all synchronize our watches to the exact second.

HEART of the Earth

Jesus died and went to the HEART of the Earth about 3 pm. He was buried on the SURFACE of the Earth at sundown (about 6 pm). His DEATH is what starts the clock. That's when He went to the HEART of the Earth. Several scriptures are given in the article. Three days & three nights EXACTLY gets to Saturday at 3 pm if He was crucified on Wednesday. That makes Sunday the 4th day, which doesn't fit scripture. It HAD to be Thursday and the three days & nights don't have to be exactly 72 hours.

Good Thursday - Easter Week Timeline

Upon Which Day of the Week was Jesus Crucified? March 21, 2015 at 5:47am  by David Ickes There have been scores of volumes written upon this very subject over the centuries concerning the exact timing of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The majority of these writings have been an argument for or against the idea of Christ being crucified on a Friday. Many have disputed the “Good Friday” teaching of the Roman Catholic Church because it is such a high profile or well known doctrine, and because it is a very simple teaching to disprove.  Almost everyone, including non-Christians all over the world, are familiar with the fact that Jesus was supposed to be dead for three days and three nights before he would arise.  Well, anyone with an elementary understanding of the scriptures and simple mathematics could demonstrate that it is not possible to be dead for three days and three nights if one were to die on a Friday and ri...
